Trial Classes

Dancers are welcome to try any dance class at MDSA at any time. Each class is $7 per student. However, enrollment in a class is at the discretion of the Teacher. 

We welcome all to come and try a class, but ask that these standards are followed:

1. Please be considerate of the MDSA Office Staff and Teachers & do not arrive at a class without forewarning. Contact the Studio via phone or mail 24 hours before your desired class. 

2. Payment of the Trial fee 24 hours before your desired class to hold your dancer's spot.

3. All trial students must follow all MDSA Dress Code & Classroom Policies.

Class Descriptions

 Classes may be added to the schedule if sufficent interest is provided. MDSA reserves the right to cancel classes offered with refund provided if there is low attendence and/or commercially unreasonable. 

 

Classes begin the week of August 12, 2019 and January 6, 2020. August and January classes will be used to determine ability and proper placement.  

Acrobats

Acrobatic Gymnastics is an ancient activity that emphasizes the combined beauty of dance and acrobatics. Students will learn tumbling skills that add excitement to the exercises. Students will also learn acrobatic skills showing grace, strength and flexibility. Choreography and synchronization add flare and creativity to each exercise. 

MDSA offers different levels of Acrobatic Classes, determined by what best fits each student according to their age and abilities. 

Ballet

Ballet is a highly technical form of dance training with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has influenced and defined the foundation of techniques used in many other genres. Ballet has evolved over the years but will always hold the most important dance fundamentals. It requires hard work, dedication and discipline.

MDSA offers different levels of Ballet Classes, determined by what best fits each student according to their age and abilities. 

Ballroom - Youth

In youth ballroom, students will learn the core ballroom dances, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Rumba, and Swing. Important aspects of Ballroom dance will be introduced such as posture, poise, and musicality.
Every week students will learn a few steps of various styles as well as the technique behind them. Students will learn to dance alone and with a partner so they are able to lead and follow in social dance situations. 

 

Partners are not required for this class but strongly encouraged. 

Jazz/Tap Combo

Tap/Jazz Combo classes are for boys and girls ages 4-7. Each Combo class consists of half an hour of Jazz and half an hour of Tap. This fun-filled class will perform either Tap or Jazz at the Recital (teachers choice). See class descriptions for Tap and Jazz.

Jazz

Jazz is a fast paced and energetic dance taught to contemporary music using floor work, isolations, technique, across the floor and center combinations. It will get the body moving with grace and power. Jazz  is upbeat, fun, and extremely popular!

MDSA offers different levels of Jazz Classes, determined by what best fits each student according to their age and abilities. 

Leaps and Turns

*Prerequisite: Student must have taken at least one year of Ballet 1 or Jazz 1 and be able to execute a pirouette and grande jeté.

This is a technique class designed to assist students in focusing on the leaps, jumps and turns that dancers perform in Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary. This specialized class is a way to better your technique when executing basic leaps, center leaps, turns, and fouetté.

Princess Ballet

In Princess Ballet (girls ages 3 to 5 years old) learn grace, poise, basic steps and proper positions through the joy of ballet. Your child will get to learn those basics of ballet AND get to dress up like a princess!

Song and Dance
Boys Technique 

Dance is art, exercise, and sport all in one.  This class emphasizes the strength, coordination and athleticism of dance. 
Build fitness, healthy body awareness, strength and confidence while working on proper alignment, coordination, and endurance. 
Boys Technique is intended for our male students only.  It is a positive environment for boys to explore and pursue a basic interest in dance.

This class will have a emphasis in musical theater; singing & dancing. Students will spend part of the time in group vocal training and the other half in group choreography. Music will be chosen from Broadway and current hits. 

Superheros 

This imaginative class is for every little boy or girl who dreams of becoming a superhero! Capes will be provided during class to enhance creativity and enjoyment.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

MDSA offers different levels of Contemporary Classes, determined by what best fits each student according to their age and abilities. 

Hip Hop

All positive, family-friendly music/non-suggestive lyrics, high energy, and tons of fun. 
Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform the moves. It is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

MDSA offers different levels of Hip Hop Classes, determined by what best fits each student according to their age and abilities. 

Tap

This class will be offered to girls and boys.  Students will learn the basic sounds and steps of tap movements as well as the proper terminology.  Students will learn how to make rhythmic patterns and timing beats. Students will learn tap at the barre, traveling and center floor.  Students will develop an understanding of musicality, rhythm and coordination.  Students will develop basics and advance them by adding more beats and rhythms.  Students will learn how to free style tap and learn tap combinations.  

Tiny Tumblers

Tiny Tumblers class will focus on developing and refining the children’s large motor-skills. This class encourages children to challenge themselves and explore their physical abilities in a safe environment, developing their confidence and coordination. There’s also a bit of singing, dancing, and a lot of active fun!
